Types of MBA Studies

Educational institutions offer several types of MBA studies. Some are more flexible, others require a lot of time spent on lectures and personal student meetings.

Daily MBA study

This type of MBA study usually lasts from one to two years and the lecture schedule is throughout the working week. Students are very busy with an intensive program and there is no time to work alongside the study. Such two-year MBA programs are very common in North America.

Accelerated MBA

The accelerated MBA form is a variation of a two-year full-time course. The only difference is that students have a more intense schedule and have to work out a lot of assignments in a relatively short time. Leisure between semesters and summer holidays is much shorter than usual. This type of accelerated study lasts one year.

Distance MBA

The difference between a distance MBA and an online MBA is that, in distance learning, students must attend some lectures in person, as opposed to an online MBA where students may not be personally present at any lecture. The MBA Distance Study is mostly done through interactive videos, video conferences, and online and offline lectures. Some MBA programs in distance form require their students to organize personal meetings with their “online” classmates.

Online MBA

Many MBA business faculties have responded to the needs of their students and have also started to offer an online MBA where students can qualify from home comfort and apply the learned knowledge to practice as students are able to work full time during online study.

Executive MBA (EMBA is for top managers)

The Executive MBA is designed for top executives who cannot afford to break their business. EMBA universities are looking for candidates with at least 5 years of top management experience and at least 10 years of work experience. This study is mostly financed by the company in which the participant is currently working. The duration of the EMBA study is from 12 to 24 months.

Professional MBA (PMBA)

A professional MBA is a mix between an external MBA and an intensive MBA, giving students more flexibility by being able to study only on weekends or just in the evening. A professional MBA usually lasts 12 months.

Global EMBA (GEMBA)

The global EMBA is the same as a professional MBA, with the difference that during a global MBA study students have to spend a few semesters in different countries with different cultural values ‚Äč‚Äčlike their own. The program is both financially and time-consuming, as students have to travel many times during intensive study.

External MBA

External studies take place only in the evening or at weekends. This form of study may last up to 3 years.
